What is a pip in forex?
A pip (Percentage in Point) is the smallest standard price move in forex. For most currency pairs like EUR/USD, a pip is 0.0001 (the fourth decimal place). For JPY pairs like USD/JPY, a pip is 0.01 (the second decimal place). For gold (XAU/USD), a pip is typically 0.01.
How is pip value calculated?
Pip value depends on three factors: the currency pair, the lot size, and your account currency. The formula is:
For a standard lot (1.00 lot) of EUR/USD, one pip = $10. For a micro lot (0.01 lot) of EUR/USD, one pip = $0.10. The pip value stays the same regardless of the current exchange rate for USD-quoted pairs.
